Watersport Holidays in the Cotswold Lakes
If you love being on or near the water, Nyhavn Lakeside Cottage puts you right at the heart of watersports and lakeside activities. Set within the Cotswold Water Park and overlooking Isis Lake, you can move seamlessly between peaceful days on the deck and more energetic adventures out on the water.
Fishing on Isis Lake
Isis Lake is our very own carp fishing lake, just a few steps from your front door. Whether you’re a keen angler or simply curious to give it a try, it’s a wonderfully relaxed setting to set up your rod, sit back and watch the water.
The lake is known for carp, and with the cottage’s south-facing decking looking directly over the water, it’s easy to combine a day’s fishing with regular breaks on the terrace for a coffee, a good book or a bit of wildlife watching. Early mornings and still evenings are particularly special, when the lake is at its calmest and the only sounds are birdsong and the gentle splash of fish breaking the surface.
Coarse Fishing in the Local Area
Beyond Isis Lake, there are further opportunities for coarse fishing nearby within the wider Cotswold Water Park. With a network of lakes in close proximity, anglers can vary their setting during their stay, trying different waters while still being based in the comfort of Nyhavn. It’s an easy way to build a fishing-focused break, with the bonus of having a warm, welcoming cottage to come back to at the end of the day.
Watersports at the Cotswold Water Park
Just over the road from the gated Isis & Windrush Lakes development, the wider Water Park opens up a completely different side to lakeside life. Selected lakes offer paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing and open water swimming, with equipment hire and tuition available, so you don’t need to arrive fully kitted out or experienced.
If you’re new to watersports, this is a gentle, supportive place to start. Calm, inland lakes are ideal for learning to balance on a paddleboard or getting to grips with a kayak or canoe. For those with more experience, it’s a chance to stretch out and explore, enjoying long, relaxed paddles in beautiful surroundings.
Open water swimming is also available at certain lakes, offering a refreshing way to start the day before heading back for breakfast on the deck. Because hire and lessons are on hand, mixed groups work well here too – some can head out with an instructor, while others watch from the shore with a coffee.
Balancing Activity and Relaxation
One of the joys of staying at Nyhavn is how easily you can blend peaceful downtime with more active sessions on the water. You might spend the morning paddleboarding or kayaking across one of the local lakes, then wander back for a slow afternoon on your private decking, watching the light change over Isis Lake.
Families, couples and friends often find that everyone can follow their own pace. Keen anglers can settle in by the water, while others head out to try a new watersport or simply stroll around the lakes. However you choose to spend your time, the water is always close by – sometimes gently lapping at the shore below the cottage, sometimes carrying you across the lake on a board or in a boat.
